Con el sol apenas asomándose por las majestuosas montañas de la sierra madre, una familia de  gélidas latitudes comienza una travesía en las pacificas aguas de la bahía de banderas, se dirigen al sur de la bahía , al paraíso escondido llamado las Caletas, su viaje no puede ser más ameno, cuidando que su experiencia sea placentera, trabajan diligentemente un pequeño grupo de hombres nacidos en la costa, tras el timón uno de los capitanes con mas horas  en altamar, su mirada vigilante observa el mar que ha sido la cuna de sus ancestros, y sus arrugas dejan ver la acción del sol , la sal y el trabajo duro a través de los años, sin embargo el y su tripulación  no pierden el sentido del humor y muestran siempre una sonrisa aperlada.

El desembarco es mágico, los sonidos de aves, y palmas mecidas por el viento crean una atmosfera mágica para esta pequeña familia, mientras papá se dirige al centro de buceo a explorar las maravillas de Neptuno, mamá disfruta de una sesión con un colaborador poco común, un lobo marino que hace las delicias de los niños, en el corazón de este bosque tropical, otros niños hacen amigos mientras atraviesan las instalaciones mediante tirolesas custodiadas por un selecto grupo de exploradoras que harán que los pequeños vivan su primer experiencia extrema,.

Los colores del mar, en contraste con el verdor del bosque crean un lienzo perfecto para que familias como esta se sientan inspiradas por la naturaleza.

Cuatro años...

Empecemos por describir la experiencia que me ha dejado colaborar en esta empresa, y sobre todas la
cosas la madurez que he adquirido de trabajar en el increíble Canopy Adventure Park.
Comenzando a entrenar para convertirme en un guía de tirolesa y rappel tuve la oportunidad de conocer el equipo y las técnicas de altura que nunca en mi vida había escuchado antes!
Al ponerme el arnés por primera vez y subir a las plataformas y ver desde lo alto de las copas de los arboles, A 20 METROS DE ALTURA! Y sólo estar conectados a un simple arnés, que bueno para mí era un simple arnés, aunque ese simple arnés puede increíblemente sostener toneladas, me hizo sentir seguro y comenzó a desaparecer ese pequeño temor a las alturas que tenía.
A medida que paso del tiempo y una vez que comencé trabajar con guías experimentados note la especialización que se tiene en la compañía y que el huésped es y será lo mas importante, por ello el carisma de los guías y la atencion al detalle es sobresaliente.
Al poco tiempo de hacer para Vallarta Adventures quería traer a mis amigos para que conocieran el
trabajo que estaba desempeñando, y lo mejor de todo que era un trabajo que no parecía un trabajo por
la diversión que me daba, sin dejar atrás el profesionalismo que caracteriza a Vallarta Adventures.
Casi un año había pasado ya, cuando de repente nos informan de un nuevo recorrido de tirolesa... El Outdoor Adventure CABO SAN LUCAS, en la cual me enliste para tener la oportunidad de estar en esta nueva ala de la compañía en Baja California Sur, y cual es la sorpresa de que fui unos de los afortunados en viajar a Cabo San Lucas e iniciar con el programa Outdoor Adventure en Cabo por 6 meses, experiencia que nunca olvidaré.
Trabajar en medio de la nada, con sol, derrumbantes 40 grados centígrados me hacían casi decir, esto no es lo mío. Pero ver el empeño, notar las ganas, y la garra de mis compañeros que demostraban me hacía continuar y de esta manera colaborar en la exitosa apertura del tour que hasta al momento  continua con éxito abierto al público en medio del desierto, en un cañón en un lugar llamado Boca de la Sierra.
Una vez de regreso a Puerto Vallara al cabo de seis meses me reintegro al equipo de Canopy  Adventure una vez más para formar parte de una nueva transformación del mismo. La renovación total y reapertura del que ahora conocemos como CANOPY ADVENTURE PARK, ya no es sólo tirolesa y rappel sino un parque con multiactividades como puentes colgantes, escaleras de más de 20 metros de altura, lianas de Tarzán, tirolesas y rappeles que ya nos distinguen.
Asi mismo, aquí continuo laborando y colaborando en esta ejemplar compañía, compañía que me ha hecho madurar como persona y profesionista.

Estamos muy contentos y orgullosos de anunciar que Dolphin Adventure en Puerto Vallarta y Cabo Dolphins en Cabo, se unieron y donaron 100,000 dólares para ayudar en la remodelación de un asilo que alberga a los viejitos más pobres y desvalidos de Baja California Sur.

El asilo, San Vicente de Paúl en La Paz, está programado para abrir a principios de marzo y sus instalaciones proporcionarán comodidades y servicios a personas que de otra manera enfrentarían su futuro desesperados, inseguros y solos. Los residentes ahora podrán pasar sus años restantes en un lugar seguro, en donde tendrán los cuidados necesarios y todas sus necesidades satisfechas, contarán también con acceso a servicios médicos, alimentos saludables y programas sociales.

Felipe Diez Canedo, Director Ejecutivo de Cabo Dolphins y Cabo Adventures y Eduardo Segura, Gerente General de Cabo Dolphins y Cabo Adventures, se reunieron la semana pasada con el Gobernador de Baja California Sur, el Ingeniero Narciso Agúndez Montaño, en San Vicente de Paúl,  para presentar el cheque por $ 100,000 USD. "Cada mes proporcionamos terapias con delfines a niños con capacidades diferentes (a través del DIF). Con esta donación a San Vicente de Paul, queremos también ayudar a la gente necesitada de la tercera edad, queremos darles confort, atención y seguridad a aquellos que de no estar aqui su futuro sería sombrío y que estarían desesperados ", dijo Diez Canedo. "Estamos muy contentos de poder devolver a nuestra comunidad, y lo seguiremos haciéndolo lo mejor que podamos."

Last May 8^th, once more Peace invited us to help!!!

Together with San Francisco people, Punta de Mita Foundation, and Home Depot we spent two days helping a small community school next to Punta de Mita.

Everyone had different tasks: dig, cut, paint... at the end we changed old tires and wire reels into beautiful chairs and tables, we were really excited as the school looked so beautiful with its colorful painted and decorated walls

It was tons of fun and we learned that recycling such things as old tires helps us create useful products that can benefit our environment.

While most visitors to the Puerto Vallarta area have heard of Vallarta Adventures, the majority never know that one of the tour company's main objectives besides giving back to the ambient world around them is to continually work directly with local social programs and services for the less fortunate.

On Sunday, January 31st, Vallarta Adventures invited 450 children from Puerto Vallarta, Banderas Bay and Tepic, Nayarit to join them on a Humpback Whale Watching Adventure.

The young guests came from various backgrounds; children's homes, boarding schools, assisted living homes and children's shelters, many with physical or emotional challenges.In the morning you could feel the energy as the children from Tepic arrived on the buses that Vallarta Adventures arranged to transport them to their adventure.

Many of the children had never been on a boat before let alone had the enormous pleasure of going out on the ocean to see observe the Humpback Whales, dolphins and other marine life.The children excitedly boarded the catamarans and their voyage began with the staff presenting an educational program about the visiting whales and the importance of the protection and conservation of the inhabitants of the bay. The children participated by asking questions, intently listening and expressing amazing interest about the marine life and environment.

As they toured the bay, they enjoyed lunch and juice as they were greeted by many whales and their offspring, dolphins, sea turtles and birds.The children expressed that they had an unforgettable day and the true testament at the end of their adventure was the giant smiles that adorned their beautiful faces.

Lo que empezó como una mañana normal de avistamiento de ballenas en la Bahía de Banderas se convirtió en una misión de rescate para liberar a dos ballenas enredadas en una red de pesca ilegal.

Alrededor de las once de la mañana del 28 de enero de 2010, un bote turístico vio una ballena jorobada y su ballenato comportándose anormalmente, parecían estar luchando en la superficie del océano.  Después de acercarse a ellas cautelosamente, la tripulación del bote confirmó que las ballenas estaban enredadas con una enorme red de pescar y que necesitarían ayuda para poder rescatarlas.

Vallarta Adventures, un proveedor de tours eco-turísticos en Puerto Vallarta, escucho en la radio acerca de las ballenas e inmediatamente su equipo de Rescate de animales marinos se pusieron en marcha para ayudar en el rescate y recuperación de los animales atrapados.

Camino al punto de rescate el equipo de Vallarta Adventures se reunió con la Marina Mexicana, ya juntos el teniente Luis Vidal abordó el barco de Vallarta Adventures para ayudar a liberar al par.  Una vez que alcanzaron a las angustiadas ballenas pudieron evaluar que la mamá estaba enredada de la punta a la cola en la red de pescar ilegal y que su ballenato se estaba enredando mientras nadaba cerca de ella.

Fueron necesarias todas las manos para dentro del agua agarrar e ir cortando las cuerdas y las boyas que rodeaban a las ballenas.  Conforme estas se sentían menos atrapadas por la red, empezaron a moverse aún más lo que hacía que el esfuerzo para liberarlas fuera cada vez más difícil y peligroso.

Con persistencia y rápida acción el equipo de Vallarta Adventures y el oficial naval rápidamente quitaron la red de las ballenas y en una hora las dos estaban sanas y libres, nadando en la bahía.

We receive a lot of emails from guests wanting to know what to wear or what to pack for when they participate in our Outdoor Adventure or visit our Canopy Adventure Park.  And while we do have this info within our website I am going to expand a little bit further in this blog article.

The #1 rule is to dress comfortably and correctly. While the sundress or flip-flips may look great on you at the beach, neither are going to work for you when you zip from tree to tree or rappel down a waterfall.

We suggest you wear shorts, (but not too short as the harness and equipment sometimes make the shorts “ride up” and that is just not pretty or comfortable) and a cool top or T-shirt. And not “cool” as in; “Hey now that’s a really cool shirt!” but as in lightweight and light in color. But, if you happen to have one that is both, be sure to wear it because then you’ll be double-y “cool” for all of the photo opportunities.

If you are going on the Outdoor Adventure, you can bring with a change of clothes and we will provide a place to store them. We encourage this as you probably will get wet and if you want to do some extra exploration in town or a grab cold beverage after the tour, you may want to change clothes.

Next: closed toe shoes. You can wear tennis shoes, hiking boots, even bowling shoes if you like as long as they have a little traction. Keep in mind that they may get wet, so I wouldn’t pack the Prada sneakers if were you.

While we recommend closed toe shoes in general, we also allow any kind of strap-on athletic sandal like a Teva or Keen.

Basically flip-flops are a “NO-GO” but anything that is comfortable, stays on and protects your feet is what is important.

We want to make sure you do not lose your shoes when you zip line or rappel and stub your toe on a platform or a rock. If by chance you forget to pack proper shoes, there are plenty of stores in town that sell appropriate footwear and we also sell water shoes at our two gift shops that work well for this adventure and most others.

The next item on our list is insect repellent.

Yes, we have mosquitoes all year long in the area, although certain times of the year we have more than other times. Out in the lush tropical jungles where our adventures will take you, there will more than likely be some mosquitoes. You can buy insect repellent all over Puerto and Nuevo Vallarta. Most stores from OXXO, to a farmacia (drug store) to your hotel gift shop will have it. No need to pack it unless you have a brand you prefer.  Brands here are Off, Bye-Bye, Autlan and a few others. All are safe to use.

Keep in mind you may want to give yourself a good coat of it before you dress because mosquitoes are sneaky and seek out any exposed skin. Bring the spray with and give yourself another dose before you do the tour. The guides will give you a “Last call for Bug Spray” warning as we do not allow any insect repellent to be used after a certain point as it can damage the safety equipment.

We provide a lock-up bin and secure lockers for items you cannot or do not want to bring with you on the actual zip line tour, such as insect repellent, camera, hats, sunglasses, change of clothes and other personal items.

Other suggestions are if you are planning on going on either tour in the early morning from December through April, you may want to wear a light jacket or sweater, especially for the boat ride or ride to the Canopy Adventure Park in the back of the Unimog as it can be chilly sometimes.

If you wear glasses or prescription sunglasses, you may want to wear an eye-glass bungee to keep them secure especially if they are loose. Non-prescription sunglasses are not allowed and not needed and can be locked up with your other personal items.

You can wear a hat to and from the tour but we provide you with a bandana and a zip-line helmut to wear during the actual tour. The hat can be locked up in the secure bin/locker.


The other thing we suggest you pack and wear are your “Adventure Boots”. This is the invisible footwear that is spirited, spunky, curious, energetic and goes with any outfit, tour and fits all sizes.

NUEVO VALLARTA, MEXICO
ENE. 24, 2009 –

En una operación dirigida por la Secretaría de Marina y en coordinación con expertos en mamíferos marinos de Vallarta Adventures y el Instituto Tecnológico del Mar (ITMAR),  dio como resultado en la exitosa liberación de una ballena Jorobada que se enredo en una línea de pesca profunda que limitaba su movimiento y ponía en riesgo su vida.

De acuerdo con los reportes de miembros de la 8va Zona Militar de la Marina de Puerto Vallarta, a cargo del Teniente Luis Vidal, la ballena fue ubicada el día jueves 22 a las 2pm en la parte norte de la Bahía de Banderas, frente a la playa del hotel Four Seasons ubicado en Punta Mita. Al momento de realizar la primera inspección, notaron que se encontraba enredada con cable utilizado para pesca profunda (también conocida como "cimbra") de 1/8 de pulgada y que varios de los anzuelos que esta contenía estaban enterrados en sus aletas dorsales, cola y mandíbula. 

Después de esta primera evaluación, se decidió conjuntar una Operación de Rescate en conjunto con personal provisto por los expertos en mamíferos marinos Vallarta  Adventures e ITMAR.

Ricardo Rebolledo, Especialista en Mamíferos Marinos de Vallarta Adventures comenta: "El jueves recibimos la llamada de PROFEPA (Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente) quienes nos comentaron sobre la situación crítica en que se encontraba la ballena y que se encontraba enredada en una gran cantidad de línea de pesca con anzuelos alrededor de sus aletas y cuerpo. De esta manera, acordamos previamente cómo nos coordinaríamos para realizar la Operación de Rescate de la ballena y revisar que tipo de equipo necesitaríamos para llevar a cabo la misión con éxito. Llegamos al lugar a las 4:30pm." 

Una vez en el lugar, se realizó una segunda evaluación más profunda para revisar todas las circunstancias. La condición del mamífero era más delicada de lo que parecía en un principio, ya que se trataba de una madre con una cría que nadaba a su lado y sin ningún tipo de ataduras. La vida de ambas criaturas se encontraba en un gran riesgo, ya que la cría se encuentra en una etapa crítica de su aprendizaje de respiración.

El proceso de liberación de una ballena en alta mar, es en extremo peligrosa y solo debe llevarse a cabo por personal calificado. Muchos rescatistas sin preparación han muerto o lesionados de manera crítica en sus intentos por liberar a estos animales.

Se colocó una boya de rastreo para la rápida ubicación de la ballena, en el horizonte se puede observar las Islas Marietas.

A pesar de las óptimas condiciones meteorológicas, el tiempo restante (solamente una hora de luz antes del atardecer), las aguas turbulentas que se encuentran en el exterior de la Bahía y la marea alta, hacían que la operación fuera excesivamente riesgosa, tanto para los animales como para el personal. Por lo tanto, se decidió que solamente se marcara a la ballena con una boya de rastreo, para ubicar su posición exacta aunque nadara libremente. A las 6:20pm, decidimos posponer la operación hasta el día siguiente.

Gracias a la boya con la que se marcó a la ballena, no se perdió tiempo y fue localizada rápidamente el viernes en la mañana por la Marina. Se encontraba nadando en frente de la playa de Destiladeras.

¡Fue un rescate muy dificil por momentos!

Vallarta Adventures e ITMAR, en sus respectivos botes, se unieron a la Operación a las 9am. La Marina coordinó los movimientos de las ballenas con 2 botes, mientras 3 instructores de buceo y un experto en mamíferos marinos de Vallarta Adventures removían el material que estaba enrollado en el cuerpo de la ballena. La operación se llevó a cabo con mucho cuidado para evitar estresar a su cría.

A la 1:30pm la madre fue liberada con éxito y nado libre junto con su bebe. Este es la 1er liberación exitosa de ballena enmallada en la Bahía de Banderas de esta temporada. Para Vallarta Adventures, es la tercera ocasión en que se realiza una operación de este tipo con éxito, desde que se instituyó el programa de Apoyo a Mamíferos Marinos hace 5 años.

Aun cuando la imagen de un animal herido o moribundo puede ser muy dolorosa y provocar sentimientos de frustración o la "necesidad de ayudar", sean advertidos que en México es una actividad ilegal para cualquier persona sin autorización gubernamental para el manejo de mamíferos marinos. 

Each winter, Humpback whales migrate south from their Arctic feeding grounds to bread and rear their young in the sheltered waters of Banderas Bay, making it one of North America’s premier whale watching sites. Every year when the Humpback whales come back they arrive singing their latest hit!

Males sing during the breeding season
Both male and female Humpback whales produce sounds to communicate. However, only males produce the more complex songs for which the Humpbacks are famous. The long, complex songs can only be heard during the breeding season (from mid-December untill the end of March in Banderas Bay).  The song lasts more than 10 minutes and is repeated constantly, sometimes for over 24 hours. The whale comes only to the surface every 15 minutes to breathe.

Why are they singing?
Even though Humpback whales are the most studied of the large whales and have been studied for over 50 years, the purpose of their song is still not well understood. The purpose is most likely sexual: attracting a mate and displacing or deterring competitors. Or it might function to keep other whales away from a mother and calve while a male is escorting them during the migration journey.

How can whale songs be heard and recorded?
The Humpback whale song can be heard at distances up to 20 miles (32 kilometers) by using hydrophone. A hydrophone is a device which can be used to listen to underwater sounds and record those.
