The PADI instructor development process is a combination of programs designed to enhance your dive professional abilities and increase your success as a certified scuba instructor. When you complete the PADI IDC, you will be fully trained and prepared to attend a PADI Instructor Examination (IE), the final step towards your PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification.
The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor rating sets you apart from the crowd. Comprehensive training, supported by a wide variety of PADI educational materials earns PADI Instructors respect from both students and peers by preparing you to conduct a broad range of PADI programs from Discover Scuba to Divemaster.
The PADI Instructor Development Course consists of three parts - the Assistant Instructor (AI) course, the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program, and the PADI Instructor Examination (IE). Vallarta Adventures' IDC program combines the AI course, OWSI program and the IE into a continuous twelve-day program that is both convenient and affordable.
Assistant Instructor Course (AI) September 3rd thru 6th 2007 The PADI Assistant Instructor course is the first portion of the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC). You'll gain experience as a PADI Professional and start learning the PADI System of diver education. The PADI Assistant Instructor Course is designed to provide PADI Divemasters, or those qualified to leadership levels with other agencies, with additional training as instructors and dive educators.
The course builds on the abilities to organize and supervise dive activities while concentrating on developing teaching skills and teaching PADI programs. Successfully completing an AI course allows instructor candidates to earn the PADI Assistant Instructor rating which authorizes them to function as instructional assistants and independently conduct certain PADI programs. AI course completion also qualifies candidates to participate in an OWSI program.
Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) September 7th thru 14th 2007 The Open Water Scuba Instructor is your final step in the quest to become a PADI Instructor. The course contains knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations. Also confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations, Open Water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations. Successfully completing the OWSI program (or an entire IDC) makes candidates eligible to participate in a PADI Instructor Examination. Instructor candidates become PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors only after successfully completing an IE.
Padi Instructor Examination (IE) September 15th & 16th 2007 The PADI IE is held over two days, directly following the IDC/OWSI. The IE is a completely evaluative program that tests the instructor candidate’s teaching ability, dive knowledge, skill level, understanding of the PADI System, attitude and professionalism. PADI IEs are standardized, objective evaluations conducted by Instructor Examiners representing one of PADI’s international offices. On successful completion of the IE, candidates receive the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor rating.
