When you begin diving in Puerto Vallarta, your introduction to diving begins with a beginner lesson so you can get used to breathing underwater. When You’re New to Scuba

Diving with us is the perfect introduction to scuba. This dive has been designed specifically for novice divers, with dive sites hand-picked just for you. To ensure the safety of our guests, all dives are supervised by a dive instructor for each group of four divers.

We also use the buddy system during our scuba dives and at each dive site so you’ll never be alone under the water. There will always be someone there to help you if you have any issues.

As your introduction to the scuba basics begins, we will head out to our exclusive tropical beach hideaway. The area is a protected cove that is home to colorful tropical fish, sea turtles, rays, and other diverse sea life. Your day begins at one of two pick-up points: Nuevo Vallarta or Puerto Vallarta where we will take a boat over to our first destination: Yelapa.

Upon your arrival, you can choose to spend your time at the beach or take a scenic hike through the town of Yelapa, admiring its unique views that combine the beach, the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountains and the Yelapa river, as well as the numerous colorful artwork pieces that adorn its pathways and staircases.

After some exploration time in Yelapa, we’ll head back to the boat and make our way to Majahuitas, an almost private beach, tastefully furnished in a laid-back hippie chic style. Explore Yelapa Fishing Village

Yelapa Mexico, just south of Puerto Vallarta and only accessible by boat, is home to a small fishing community and is a must-see destination for those traveling to Puerto Vallarta.

Our tour will allow you to freely stroll through the town's hilly narrow roads and pathways, which offer views to spare of the river, the beach, and the tropical vegetation that cover the foothills of the Sierra Madre, where Yelapa is located. Expressive murals and tile artwork cover some of its walls and staircases, making the hike an Instagram-worthy experience.

You'll find street vendors with colorful displays of arts &amp; crafts, hand-made pieces, and souvenirs, as well as others offering a local famous dessert simply known as the "Yelapa pie", made of tropical fruits such as banana, coconut, or lime.

If you don't feel like walking, it's always a good idea just to chill at one of the traditional beach restaurants, with a beer or a tropical drink on hand, while you enjoy the views of the fishing boats floating on Yelapa's warm waters.

During the rainy season, one of the town's points of interest is the Yelapa waterfall, also called "Cola de Caballo", so if you are taking the Yelapa &amp; Majahuitas tour from July to November, make sure you don't miss the guided walk to this refreshing waterfall.

Certified divers can explore pristine waters in the furthest dive sites from Puerto Vallarta - and two of the most fascinating!

When you scuba in La Corbeteña and El Sequial with the team of Vallarta Adventures' PADI Five Star Dive Center, you’ll come face to face with a profusion of sea life, from manta rays and turtles to dolphins and even sharks. But these beautiful creatures aren’t the only reason to make the trek out to these sites. Dive deep, traverse caves and commune with some of the largest fish in the sea on two dives that are worth getting PADI certified.

This dive site is only available as a private excursion for certified divers (1,432 USD is the starting rate for up to 8 divers). 

Scuba in La Corbeteña

With its crystal clear waters and incredible visibility, La Corbeteña is a dive site you don’t want to miss. Northwest of Puerto Vallarta, 36 miles off the shore, you’ll find the rock that marks the spot where caves, arches, and steep walls await those underwater explorers experienced enough to cope with the sometimes challenging currents.

Once you’re beneath the waves you’ll enjoy close encounters with huge schools of jacks, giant rays, reef sharks, sailfish, marlin and whale sharks.

Scuba Dive at El Sequial

To scuba in La Corbeteña and El Sequial is to experience some of the most striking landscapes under the sea. At El Sequial, located outside of Banderas Bay, there is unique a submerged tabletop island that is a haven to a huge variety of marine life. Imagine traversing a giant sunken football field populated by massive sailfish and tuna and then peering over the side of the massive table into dark drop-offs below - a true underwater thrill.

When you scuba in La Corbeteña and El Sequial, you’ll have a tank of air for each site. Only certified divers can participate in back to back dives. Divers without a PADI certification can participate in 1-tank dives to a maximum depth of 40 feet whereas certified divers can participate in 2-tank dives down to a depth of 60 feet. More advanced divers can dive even further down and in sites where obstacles and low visibility can present challenges to less experienced divers.

As the course progresses, you’ll learn to quickly analyze and respond to a variety of injuries and illnesses such as broken bones and other non-life-threatening conditions. Scuba diving is safe but there are risks inherent in every underwater activity. That’s why every one of our scuba dives in Las Caletas is supervised by PADI-certified instructors and divemasters, and we use the buddy system to ensure that no guest ever dives alone.

Vallarta Adventures’ private beach has underwater adventures, too!  Located on the Southern shore of Banderas Bay, this cove is an ideal place for those new to diving to learn the ropes and also offers plenty for experienced divers to explore. Scuba Dive in Las Caletas

Join the professional team of Vallarta Adventures' PADI Five Star Dive Center for an hour-long trip in our fully equipped dive boat to one of our favorite dive sites in the outer limits of Banderas Bay: Los Anegados.

Halfway between the Marietas Islands and El Morro, there is a bank where shallows transition into deeper waters and divers can join bottom dwellers like rays and eels and then pelagics like jacks and tuna in waters that can sometimes pose a challenge but are typically pleasantly mild and easy for more experienced divers to navigate.

This dive site is only available as a private excursion for certified divers (880 USD is the starting rate for up to 4 divers).

See Caves and Fascinating Rock Formations

Where else can you see such a wide variety of marine life in one day? The relatively sheltered rocky bank at Los Anegados is peppered with caves and punctuated by intricate rock formations that are the perfect hiding spots for creatures both large and small, including moray eels, eagle rays, and sometimes even nurse sharks.

A Shallow but Challenging Scuba Dive in Los Anegados

The shallow depths at Los Anegados may make it seem like an easy site, but this dive can sometimes be demanding for even more experienced divers. There are sometimes strong currents to contend with and north winds can make the ocean rough. Very rarely, the conditions at Los Anegados are such that we don’t feel we can guarantee our guests’ safety, and in such cases, we take guests to the beautiful Marietas Islands or to another dive site in the southern part of Banderas Bay.

Open Water Shark Diving at Los Anegados

This popular diving tour gives you the opportunity to dive at two different locations in Los Anegados, and if you’re lucky you will get to see some of our famous sharks! Nurse sharks are gentle creatures that spend their days resting on the sandy ocean floor and tend to turn tail and swim away when approached by humans.

But you can observe nurse sharks from a distance if you have your Open Water Certification. The biggest nurse sharks prefer deeper reefs and shelves 100 feet into the ocean. You can meet these sharks, too, though you’ll need an Advanced Open Water Certification or higher.

Stay Safe from Start to Finish

The safety of our guests is our number one priority, in and out of the water. Every one of our dives, at Los Anegados and at other sites, is overseen by one or more PADI certified instructors trained to look for any signs of trouble. We also use the buddy system on all of our dives, so no guest is ever alone under the waves. Help is always a wave away.

The Dive Location

This dive can sometimes be demanding for divers due to strong currents, but typically the current is mild. The location of this dive site is outside of the bay, 24 nautical miles. We will get north winds that can make the ocean rough. The journey to the dive site is 1 hour in our fully-equipped dive boat. If the conditions are too difficult at Anegados, we may change the destination to The Marietas Islands or to the Southern part of the bay.

Discover Drama in the Deep

El Morro is sometimes called the most secluded dive site in Puerto Vallarta, but it is definitely one of the most striking. The pinnacles that are the first sign you’ve reached El Morro are also what make it so unique a site. They rise from the ocean floor and are pockmarked with dozens of tunnels and caves that are teeming with marine life - all of which you can discover on this dive.

A Diversity of Creatures Awaits

Down below El Morro you might see lobsters, turtles, octopuses,  seahorses and jacks, along with sharks, and the biggest eels and most awe-inspiring manta rays you’ve ever seen. Then there are the coral and the sponges, which come in every conceivable color and are home to too many varieties of tropical fish to count. It is a spectacle of color!

The Caverns at El Morro

The start of your scuba dive in El Morro involves diving down 90 feet, where you’ll see cave openings in front of you. It’s difficult to see inside, but those daring enough to enter will be rewarded with two things. First, rocky granite walls teeming with invertebrates like sea fans and coral, along with brilliant nudibranchs and scurrying shrimp. Sometimes an octopus will speed by! And second, a brilliant view of the surrounding sea. The darkness of the cave makes the brilliant clarity of the water all the more stunning.
