The Marietas Islands inspired legendary ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau to advocate for their protection, helping preserve one of the richest marine ecosystems in the Mexican Pacific.

Snorkel above vibrant volcanic reefs where more than 100 species of tropical fish thrive. Depending on the season and ocean conditions, you may also encounter graceful sea turtles, colorful rays, octopus, lobsters, and other fascinating marine life that inhabit these protected waters.

Above the surface, dramatic cliffs and secluded coves provide spectacular scenery as you paddleboard or simply admire the untouched beauty of this extraordinary marine reserve.

A Haven for Wildlife

Recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Marietas Islands National Park is one of Mexico's most important nesting and migratory bird sanctuaries.

Keep watch for the iconic Blue-footed Booby, whose brilliant blue feet have made it one of the world's most recognizable seabirds. Alongside these remarkable birds, more than 90 species of seabirds depend on the islands as a nesting and resting habitat throughout the year.

During your journey, it is also common to encounter wild dolphins, manta rays, sea turtles, and seasonal schools of tropical fish.

Humpback Whale Season (December–March)

During the winter months, another extraordinary wildlife spectacle unfolds in Banderas Bay.

After migrating thousands of miles from the North Pacific, majestic humpback whales arrive in these warm waters to breed and raise their calves. Sightings are frequent during the boat ride to and from the islands, and whenever conditions allow, our experienced captains will respectfully position the boat for unforgettable viewing opportunities.

Watching a humpback whale launch its massive body from the sea—or hearing its haunting song through onboard hydrophones—is a moment few travelers ever forget.
